Shenzhen Guanhu: A Modern Cultural and Sports Center

Creating a Vibrant Hub for Community Activities

The Shenzhen Guanhu project, designed by Xiaohua Peng, aims to build a modern, high-standard, and multi-functional street-level mass sports center. It not only caters to the daily cultural and sports activities of the masses but also hosts street sports competitions and district-level single sports special events. With its three functional blocks dedicated to grassroots public cultural services, public sports services, and sports industry management, Shenzhen Guanhu provides a one-stop solution for the community.

The uniqueness of the Shenzhen Guanhu project lies in its vision to create a cultural, artistic, and sports complex that serves as a vibrant city center. It is a place for young people to meet, children to play, and dogs to walk. It acts as a hub for citizens and community activities, fostering communication, experience, and learning. Unlike other grandiose and distant structures, Shenzhen Guanhu aims to seamlessly integrate into people's lives, becoming a place that citizens willingly visit when they step out of their homes.

The design of Shenzhen Guanhu emphasizes the importance of the lake culture and art stadium. It is not just a noble and cool decoration, but rather a place that enters people's lives. The project aims to create a space that reflects the rhythm of the community, where citizens can engage in various activities and foster a sense of belonging.

The realization of the Shenzhen Guanhu project involves abandoning traditional design approaches and embracing a multi-dimensional expression of space. The design language incorporates different symbols in different functional venues, with large spaces serving as connections that reflect the rhythm and symbolism of the complex. The use of lines, both folded and curved, adds depth and character to the design.

The Shenzhen Guanhu project is located at the intersection of Renmin Road and Lanjing Road in Guanhu Street. It spans a total land area of 18,327.1 square meters, with a total building area of 73,695 square meters. The project comprises a gymnasium, library, and cultural museum, each serving its specific function within the comprehensive building.

With its unique design and focus on community engagement, Shenzhen Guanhu stands out as a landmark in Longhua District, Shenzhen. The project started in July 2019 and was completed in December 2019, showcasing the dedication and creativity of designer Xiaohua Peng and the design team.

The Shenzhen Guanhu project is a testament to the extensive research and thoughtful approach undertaken by Xiaohua Peng. By incorporating the themes of "soft," "quiet," and "slow," the design captures the unique rhythm of the venues, blending natural and humanistic elements seamlessly.

The challenges faced during the design process were overcome by emphasizing the relationship between people and the ability of the building to record their tracks. By incorporating elements that reflect the lives of the community, Shenzhen Guanhu creates a space that is not only visually stunning but also deeply meaningful.

The Shenzhen Guanhu project breaks conventional living rules and showcases a diverse range of life experiences. The connection between large spaces is assisted by straight lines, while broken lines and curves take center stage, reflecting the rhythmic space and symbols of penetration.

Shenzhen Guanhu has been recognized for its outstanding design and creativity, receiving the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2022. This prestigious award acknowledges designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills, contributing to improvements in quality of life and making the world a better place.
